Charlie fell asleep in the pram this morning so Ella & I stopped for baby cino. Ella then played at Hugh’s house while I took Charlie to swim school.
This afternoon we went to the park with Whitney, Maddie & Spencer and Amanda, OIivia & Sophie. On the way home we waited at the tram stop for Auntie Mhairi.

Yes, Alan turned 21 again today!! He got a jogging pram and it was tested out this morning despite a hangover. Mhairi & Harry, Jill & Dave and Uncle Hamish & Auntie Christina are coming for birthday dinner…..oh and Blanche! On the menu is leg of lamb (a first time cooking this for me so hope it goes according to plan) and there is chocolate cake too.
Charlie fell asleep during his first trip in the jogging pram
Then Ella wanted to try it out for size….

Jill & I collected the rellies from the airport on Friday night. They cleared customs in record time (30 mins from landing) and were waiting for us when we got to the airport…..ooops. They both looked amazingly good given the long flight. We all caught up for lunch on Saturday, Mhairi was as emotional as we’d predicted!

Charlie had another half day at Treehouse last week. Unfortunately the staff said he was generally unhappy all of the time he was there and sobbed ‘Mama’ whilst making for the door on regular occasions. They did manage to get him to sleep but more from exhaustion than his desire to settle. Not sure what we do other than persevere. He’s meant to be in for a whole day this coming Wednesday but we’ll need to see how he goes. Fingers crossed….

Charlie had another half day of orientation on Friday morning and I’m glad to say he got on a lot better than the previous day. Alan dropped him off and after some initial tears he willingly went to the staff for comforting (Alan could watch him from outside without his knowing). They settled him for his morning nap and he had bouts of happiness and being unsettled during the morning before eating lunch. When Alan picked him up around midday Bianca (room leader) was happy with his progress. So while I’m sure we’ve got a few hurdles to cross before he’s completely happy, we feel much better about it all.

Today was Charlie’s first time in Treehouse, the childcare centre that Ella goes to on a Wednesday. It was just a half day orientation to get him used to it but it didn’t go particularly well. I spent 30 mins with him then the staff suggested I go and they’d call if need be. I walked in the house and my mobile rang - Treehouse “Can you come back, Charlie won’t settle”. As a mum, the guilt was overwhelming and I couldn’t get there quick enough!
When I got back he wouldn’t even settle for his nap with me so we played for a few hours, well I watched and tried to let the staff get to know Charlie. When it was time for lunch the tiredness took over and he fell asleep in the high chair. Poor baby so I took him home and he slept for a few hours. We’re trying again tomorrow to see how he goes…..

This post is a little late but Jill, Mhairi & I celebrated our birthday last Saturday. It was lovely for us to spend it together as we’ve not all been in the one place for a few years now. We had lunch together at Sails on the Bay in Elwood then came home to a fantastic cake courtesy of Harry. Fi & Mark bravely offered to have Ella AND Charlie overnight so Alan and I headed into the city. We watched a show in the comedy festival and then had supper in the Melbourne Supper Rooms (worth a visit). Such a novelty for us to have a night out together and great that we have friends that Ella & Charlie are so comfortable with.

I took Ella & Charlie to storytime at Albert Park library this morning because they had a vintage fire truck there which the children could go for a ride on. They sat and listened to several stories, did some colouring then had a ride….Ella was not keen at first but soon loved it once we started to move. Her friends Hugh and William had a turn too but Olivia didn’t want to.
